2 Killed in Chicago Heights Shooting; 3 Charged (Chicago Heights, IL) — On September 3, 2023, at approximately 4:00 a.m., the Chicago Heights Police Department responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the 500 block of W. 14th Place. Upon arrival, officers found two subjects with apparent gunshot wounds.

Chicago Heights paramedics were on scene and transported both subjects to a local hospital, where both subsequently died from their injuries.

During the initial stages of the investigation, three suspects were taken into custody. On September 4, 2023, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the facts of the case. At approximately 11:35 p.m., the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges on the three suspects:

–       Alexis Mendoza (Male, 19 years old); two counts of First-Degree Murder

–       Adrian Romo-Trejo (Male, 24 years old); two counts of First-Degree Murder

–       Jesus Mendoza; (Male, 43 years old) one count of Aggravated Battery

On September 5, 2023, all three offenders appeared for a bond hearing at the Cook County District 6 Markham Courthouse. Mendoza and Romo-Trejo were held with no bond while Jesus Mendoza was held on a $100,000 D-bond.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
