Statement from Jeffery Coleman, Republican Thornton Township Trustee Candidate (Thornton Township, IL) — The following is a statement from Jeffery Coleman, Republican candidate for Thornton Township trustee:
Many believe that the political machine in the Southland is still thriving; however, the reality is quite the opposite. Residents throughout the township have shown significantly reduced participation in elections over the past four cycles. The status quo has been taking advantage of a voter base primarily composed of senior citizens, which is heavily influenced by special interests. I believe that those analyzing voter data often pressure candidates to withdraw, fearing they may fracture their voter base.
As a staunch Republican since the untimely passing of the late Mayor Harold Washington, I have yet to see any substantial changes in the social and economic fabric of our community under both past and current leadership in Thornton Township. The potential for positive opportunities presented by the historically significant Thornton Township Republican slate has clearly caused some hesitation among Democratic leaders, prompting them to consider a strategic shift.
Remember, the slate with the most votes wins.
