Community Advocates Rally for Clean Slate in Springfield on March 19 (Springfield, IL) – The Clean Slate Illinois Coalition is organizing at the State Capitol on Wednesday, March 19th, to support the Clean Slate Act. Advocates say that by implementing the Clean Slate Act to automate the sealing and expungement process, Illinois can save millions in administration costs, generate a new workforce, and provide second chances to individuals who have turned their lives around and remained crime-free for a certain amount of time.

“This rally is about justice, opportunity, and ensuring that past mistakes don’t define a person’s future,” said Antonio Lightfoot, Deputy Director of the Illinois Coalition to End Permanent Punishments, the organizer of the event. “We encourage everyone who believes in second chances to join us in Springfield and make their voices heard.”

At the rally, attendees will be joined by state legislators and directly impacted individuals who will share their personal experiences and discuss how the Clean Slate bill will create real opportunities for those affected. This is a chance to hear firsthand the importance of this legislation, understand its potential impact, and learn specific actions supporters can take to help ensure its passage.
