Barrington, Palatine, and Worth Township Homeowners Can Now Appeal Their Property Value Assessments with the Cook County Board of Review Through November 8th (Chicago, IL) – Homeowners in Barrington, Palatine, and Worth Townships have until November 8th to appeal their property’s assessed value to the Cook County Board of Review. Submitting an appeal with the Board of Review is a free service and can potentially lower homeowners’ property tax bills. Last year, 62% of homeowners who filed directly to the Board of Review had their property tax bill reduced.

“We all know property taxes are too high,” said Commissioner George Cardenas. “That’s why I encourage homeowners to appeal their assessed property value to the Board of Review. The process is free and can be done in-person or online in just a few minutes. With what can feel like a complex process, you are not alone. We are here to help if you are seeking property tax relief.”

Homeowners can file an appeal online before the deadline at appeals.cookcountyboardofreview.com. In addition to appealing online, appeals can be filed in-person at the Cook County Board of Review (118 North Clark Street #601, Chicago, IL 60602). Appeals can also be filed in-person at the following venues:

  • October 15th from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at the Evergreen Park Public Library (9400 S. Troy Avenue, Evergreen Park, IL 60805)
  • October 23rd from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at the Worth Township Hall (11601 S. Pulaski Road, Alsip, IL 60803)
  • October 29th from 5:00PM – 8:00PM at the Village of South Barrington (30 South Barrington Road, South Barrington, IL 60010)
  • October 30th at the Palatine Township Center (721 South Quentin Road, Palatine, IL 60067). Time TBA.

Additional details and opportunities to appeal with the Board of Review can be found at cookcountyboardofreview.com/news/events.

While Cook County’s property taxes have increased 4%, multiple communities with the November 8th appeal deadline incurred higher increases:
  • Barrington: 1.01%
  • Barrington Hills: -0.21%
  • Barrington Township: 1.75%
  • Palatine: 3.04%
  • Palatine Township: 3.49%
  • Worth: 15.85%
  • Worth Township: 18.64%

“While more systemic reform is needed to ease property tax burdens for Cook County residents, after diligently reviewing appeals, the Board of Review can potentially lower your assessed value and thus, your property tax bill,” said Cardenas.
