Cook County Board of Review Commissioner George Cardenas Encourages Barrington, Palatine, and Worth Township Homeowners to Appeal Their Property Assessments Before the November 8th Deadline (Cook County, IL) – Homeowners in Barrington, Palatine, and Worth Townships have until Friday, November 8th to appeal their property’s assessed value to the Cook County Board of Review. Submitting an appeal with the Board of Review is a free service and can potentially lower taxpayers’ property tax bills. Last year, 62% of homeowners who filed directly to the Board of Review had their property tax bill reduced.
“Far too many Southwest and Northwest Suburban Cook County homeowners saw their property tax bills increase this year,” said Cardenas. “One way to potentially save money on your property tax bill is to file an appeal with our office for free. There’s no downside to appealing: it’s free and will never increase your property tax bill. We are here to help if you think your property was overvalued and are seeking property tax relief.”
Homeowners can file an appeal online at appeals.
While Cook County’s property taxes have increased 4% according to the Cook County Treasurer’s Office, multiple communities with the November 8th appeal deadline incurred higher increases:
- Barrington: 1.01%
- Barrington Hills: -0.21%
- Barrington Township: 1.75%
- Palatine: 3.04%
- Palatine Township: 3.49%
- Worth: 15.85%
- Worth Township: 18.64%
