Cook County Clerk Reports Increased Voter Turnout in the April 1 Consolidated Election (Cook County, IL) – Voter turnout in the April 1 suburban Consolidated Election increased and Election Day operations ran without incident, including the timely posting of election results within two hours after the polls closed, Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon announced today.
All 1,430 precinct locations in suburban Cook County opened on time and remained operational throughout Election Day without incident. The Clerk’s Office also conducted a successful Early Voting campaign that took place between March 17 and March 31 at 55 suburban locations.
More than 97,000 suburban voters took the opportunity to cast an early ballot, according to Clerk Gordon.
“Our Early Voting and Election Day operations ran very smoothly, and both resulted in increases in voter turnout compared with the two previous Consolidated elections,” said Gordon.
“Our voters enjoyed a seamless voting experience and that is a testament to the extensive planning, coordination, and hard work of our Elections Unit employees.”
Voter turnout for the April 1 election was 286,301 or 16.9 percent. That tops the previous Consolidated election turnout in 2023 which was 57,400 and 2021 which totaled 70,747. Early Voting also exceeded previous years with 97,697 suburban voters casting an early ballot compared with 57,400 in 2023 and 24,311 in 2021.
For the 2025 Consolidated Election, the Clerk’s Office launched a public awareness “Vote Local” campaign to raise awareness about local elections and promote voter engagement and turnout.”
While turnout was higher in the 2025 election, Clerk Gordon noted that there is still work to do to raise awareness and engagement in local elections.
“This election showed us what’s possible with targeted outreach and education, but it also highlighted the need for continued investment in voter engagement strategies, which will be a priority for me in my role as Cook County Clerk,” Gordon said.
