Crime Prevention Announcement (County of Dupage, IL) – We want to keep our community safe, so please be aware of recent uptick in ruse-style crimes. Offenders are using deceptive tactics to get the victim to exit their homes, by posing as utility or city employees, to gain entry.

These criminals often work in groups and primarily target elderly residents. Other common ruses include offers for driveway repaving, asphalt, cement work, and various home repairs.

Here’s how you can protect yourself:

  • Always verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a worker before allowing them into your home.
  • Ask for official identification and check with the utility company or city office if you’re unsure.
  • Report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
  • Lock your vehicles, lock your garages, and make sure your home is secure
  • Ring Doorbells can be a good deterrent, doorbell camera allows you to see who is at your door without opening it.
  • If you live in Unincorporated DuPage County, please call (630) 407-2400

Educate neighbors: Share information about potential scams with your neighbors so they can also stay alert.

Stay vigilant and look out for your neighbors! Let’s keep DuPage County safe together!
