FEMA Approved $300 million in Taxpayer-Funded Assistance for Illinois Amid Immigration Crisis (Chicago, IL) – A recent Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request has disclosed that FEMA has approved $300 million in taxpayer-funded assistance for Illinois communities to support services for illegal immigrants. This has sparked concerns among local candidates and taxpayers who feel their needs are being overlooked.

Documents confirm that over $300 million has been allocated to communities hosting migrants. Notably, the city of Chicago requested $66 million to address the migrant crisis and has already spent $75 million, averaging $20 million monthly on housing, food, and healthcare for newcomers.

Additionally, the Chicago federal delegation requested another $20.5 million to assist migrants through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, while homeless American citizens face harsh winter conditions without adequate support.

Local candidates, including Rice, Fioretti, Booras, and Shanahan-McGovern, are united in calling attention to this misallocation of funds. As elections approach, they urge voters to recognize the irony in representatives prioritizing noncitizen needs over their constituents.

Downers Grove resident Paul Drabik, who wrote the story, emphasized the need for accountability: “Taxpayer money should support our residents, not fund programs for illegal immigrants.”

A press conference will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11 am at the Polk and Desplaines Intake Shelter to discuss the implications of this funding.
