“Lansing police officers should be focused on keeping our streets safe, not protecting a corporate entity like Walmart,” Rush said. “The taxpayers are funding their presence at Walmart, and that’s not where our resources should be going.”
He is also calling for an inclusive approach to law enforcement, ensuring that young people of all backgrounds have access to opportunities within the police department. By fostering a more diverse and well-trained police force, Rush believes Lansing can improve its safety and build trust between law enforcement and residents.
A Personal Connection to Lansing
Rush’s connection to Lansing runs deep. Although he grew up in Chicago, his family has roots in the area. His uncle built a home in Lansing 26 years ago, and over the years, Rush and his family frequently visited. After purchasing their own home in Lansing, Rush and his wife chose to raise their two young children in the village, drawn by the strong schools and the suburban lifestyle.
“I love Lansing—it’s a great community, and it’s different from Chicago,” Rush said. “It has a laid-back atmosphere, but the people here are passionate about making this place better. I want to be part of that positive change.”
