Homer Township Focuses on Reducing Property Tax Burden with Strategic Levy Cuts (Homer Township, IL) – Homer Township Supervisor Steve Balich is making strides in easing the financial burden on local residents, focusing on reducing property taxes while maintaining essential services. Since taking office in 2021, Balich has prioritized fiscal responsibility, and his efforts are paying off.
Under his leadership, Homer Township’s tax levy has seen a steady decline. In 2020, the levy totaled $1,635,600. However, through careful budget management, the levy has been reduced to $1,340,805 for 2024, reflecting Balich’s commitment to making government more cost-efficient and responsive to the financial concerns of residents.
The efforts extend beyond the township’s general budget. The Homer Township Road District Levy, overseen by Commissioner Porfilio, has also seen a remarkable reduction of 23% over the past four years. Previously set at $5.8 million, the levy has now dropped to $1.3 million for 2024/2025. This reduction highlights a shared commitment to responsible budgeting at both the township and road district levels.
“The people of Homer Township work hard for their money, and I am dedicated to ensuring that their tax dollars are spent efficiently,” said Supervisor Balich. “I understand the burden that high property taxes can place on families and homeowners, and I am proud to have led our township toward a more sustainable and responsible fiscal path.”
These reductions in the township and road district levies are part of a broader effort to reduce costs without sacrificing the quality of public services that residents rely on. Balich has emphasized his ongoing commitment to seek further cost-saving measures while continuing to provide the high standards of service the community deserves.
As Homer Township moves into 2024, the leadership under Balich and Porfilio remains focused on easing the financial strain on local families and ensuring the responsible use of taxpayer funds.
