L.E.G.O. Black Family Wellness Expo to Promote Health and Empowerment in South Suburban Chicago (South Holland, IL) — The South Suburban Chicago Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will host the L.E.G.O. Black Family Wellness Expo on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at South Suburban College in South Holland, Illinois. This free event aims to reduce health and economic disparities within the Black community, providing essential resources and support to improve the health and overall well-being of Black families in the region.

The L.E.G.O. Black Family Wellness Expo is part of a nationwide initiative by The Links, Incorporated, an international, not-for-profit organization established in 1946. The organization is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service groups, consisting of more than 17,000 professional women of African descent in 299 chapters across 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom. The organization’s mission is to enrich, sustain, and ensure the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other people of African ancestry. Members of The Links, Incorporated contribute more than one million documented hours of community service annually, strengthening communities and enhancing the nation.

This expo in South Suburban Chicago is part of The Links’ ongoing commitment to raise awareness and provide resources that address crucial health, mental wellness, safety, and financial issues that affect many Black families. The event will feature a variety of workshops and activities aimed at improving physical and mental health. Some of the offerings include free mammograms, kidney disease screenings, free immunizations, dental check-ups, and organ/tissue donor awareness. Other workshops will cover topics such as maternal health, depression awareness, college readiness, weight loss strategies, estate planning, human trafficking prevention, and engaging with law enforcement. In addition, attendees will have the chance to participate in Xtreme Hip Hop aerobics, enjoy Harambee community drumming, and take part in CPR training and much more.

Notable elected officials including Illinois Representative Robin L. Kelly, Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, Cook County Board of Commissioner President Toni Preckwinkle, and Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon will be in attendance, showing their support for the initiative.

The event is designed for the entire family, from infants to senior citizens. It will also provide opportunities for intergenerational learning, foster community engagement, and create an environment where families can come together to celebrate culture while focusing on wellness and empowerment.

The South Suburban Chicago Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, chartered on June 5, 1976, is dedicated to serving the South Suburban Chicago area. The chapter is also honored to be the home of the 14th National President of The Links, Incorporated.
