Orland Park Community Service Officer Injured Directing Traffic (Orland Park, IL) — On November 16, 2023, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Orland Park Police Department Community Service Officers were directing traffic at Ashburn Baptist Church, located at 15401 Wolf Road, to assist parishioners leaving a gospel music concert. As one of the Community Service Officers attempted to stop traffic that was moving southbound on Wolf Road, the lead vehicle failed to stop and made contact with the officer, causing him to flip over the vehicle.

The Community Service Officer was taken to Silver Cross Hospital for his injuries and later transported to Loyola Hospital for orthopedic surgery. The 82-year-old driver was cited for having no valid driver’s license, disobeying a traffic control officer and failure to yield upon approaching an emergency vehicle (Scott’s Law).

The Village of Orland Park has created a get well card for the injured officer which is on display in the lobby of the Orland Park Police Department at 15100 S. Ravinia Avenue. Community members are welcome to add their well wishes to the card through Friday, November 24.
