Pekin Secures International Medical Supply Manufacturer, Epic Medical, for New Facility at Riverway Business Park (Pekin, IL) — The City of Pekin has reached a significant milestone with the official agreement to bring Epic Medical, a leading international medical supply manufacturer, to the Riverway Business Park. This new partnership promises to create up to 200 permanent jobs, marking a major boost for the local economy.
Pekin Mayor Mary Burress expressed her excitement about the project, emphasizing the hard work that went into finalizing the deal. “This project is something that has been in the works for a while now, and thanks to the efforts of our staff, we have finalized this deal. This will create new jobs and economic opportunities for our community,” Burress said.
Epic Medical has purchased 66.5 acres of land within the Riverway Business Park for $500,000. Construction on the new manufacturing facility is expected to begin later this year. The new plant is projected to generate more than $300,000 annually in property tax revenue and provide over 100 permanent jobs for the area.
Josh Wray, Pekin’s Director of Economic Development, highlighted the significance of the project. “The Epic Medical project will provide tremendous momentum for our community as we continue to work on future economic development projects,” Wray said.
Epic Medical, which is headquartered in Singapore, manufactures medical supplies, with about half of its business focused on the United States market. In Illinois, the company will operate under the name Epic Pharma Solutions due to trademarking requirements.
City Attorney James Vasselli shared that the legal complexities of working with an international company posed challenges, but the City successfully navigated them. “There were some hurdles to overcome, but we were able to work through them and secure a long-term and successful partnership with Epic Medical,” Vasselli said.
The company chose Pekin as the location for its first U.S.-based facility, citing the City’s high-quality water sourced from the Sankoty-Mahomet Aquifer, its temperate climate, and favorable economic incentives offered by the State of Illinois.
John Dossey, Pekin’s Pekin Secures International Medical Supply Manufacturer, Epic Medical, for New Facility at Riverway Business ParkCity Manager, emphasized the importance of infrastructure investment in attracting such projects. “This deal would not have happened without the steps our community is taking to improve water and sewer systems and our roads,” Dossey explained. “This project sets up our community for future growth and improvements thanks to the additional tax revenue and economic development it will bring.”
With construction set to begin soon, the Epic Medical project is expected to be a game-changer for Pekin, bringing both new employment opportunities and economic growth to the region.
