Rep. Haas Honors Garden of Prayer Youth Center for November Local Business Spotlight (Kankakee, IL) – For her November 2024 local business spotlight, State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) recognizes Garden of Prayer Youth Center, headquartered in Kankakee. Rep. Haas spent time touring the organization’s new headquarters and presented the directors with a certificate of appreciation for their contributions to the community.
“For my November 2024 local business spotlight, I am honored to recognize Garden of Prayer Youth Center because of the work they do with youth in our community,” said Rep. Haas. “Garden of Prayer serves over 250 children and youth from 6 weeks to 21 years of age by providing daycare, before and after school programs, summer camp, foster care, and more. I am truly proud to honor an organization that ensures children have a safe place to learn and grow, all while doing everything they can to keep families together.”
Garden of Prayer Youth Center began in 1978 when founders Reverend Shole Jordan and his wife Doris Jordan purchased a 49-acre farm in Momence to create a safe haven for displaced children. In 1995, Vurnice Maloney established the Garden of Prayer Youth Center as a private nonprofit organization. Current CEO and Director, Michael Maloney, has continued this legacy by growing the nonprofit to serve more children and families in the community.
Rep. Haas concluded, “Garden of Prayer Youth Center truly goes above and beyond to help families in our community. The work they do is admirable, and I am so thrilled to hear that they will be opening three new sites prior to the end of this year! I look forward to seeing how this organization continues to grow in our community.”
