Reverend Robin Hood Speaks at Brother Keeper’s Church in Chicago Heights on Social Justice (Chicago Heights, IL) Reverend Robin Hood and his wife Louvenia Hood were the guest speakers at My Brother’s Keeper Outreach Church in Chicago Heights on December 15th, where they addressed pressing issues of social justice, particularly focusing on the challenges facing the Black community in Chicago and the southland.
In a heartfelt sermon, Reverend Hood spoke passionately about the impact of systemic injustice and the struggles faced by many in the community. One of the key points he addressed was the rising costs of living, especially at local drugstores, which has led some individuals to resort to illegal activities in an effort to make ends meet. He emphasized the need for economic justice, stressing that no politician has the right to dictate the lives of the people in these communities. “Are we going to let some politician tell us what to do? It don’t make sense. It don’t line up with the word of God,” Reverend Hood declared, underscoring his belief in personal agency and fairness. Highlighting that politicians should be hearing what the people have to say.
The Reverend also highlighted the troubling trend of young people being incarcerated, only to be released back onto the streets without any significant change in their circumstances. Expressing that children coming out of jail get put right back onto the streets doing the same exact thing. His message was clear: the cycle of incarceration and recidivism must be broken. He called on the community to take responsibility for its youth, saying, “We got to start looking at these children like they’re ours.”
Reverend Hood drew a powerful parallel to the biblical story of Christ, who was unjustly tried and convicted in a “kangaroo court.” He warned that guilty actions, much like unjust rulings, cannot be easily erased. “You can wash but you still dirty,” he said, alluding to the long-lasting consequences of both personal actions and institutional systems.
The evening was filled with calls for unity, compassion, and action, as Reverend Hood urged the congregation to step up and become a source of love and support for the children in their community. His powerful words resonated deeply with the attendees, encouraging them to take a stand for justice and contribute to a more equitable future for all.
