In December of 2021, Deputy Goewey received word that a student had previously made a gun threat in the same classroom as his daughter. He and another parent went to the school to address the issue and requested they remove the student from the class, in accordance with his training and experience as a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) for the Sheriff’s Office specially trained to address these issues.
ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly provided an update on placement of license plate cameras along nearby interstates to catch criminals involved in shootings. There also was discussion of efforts by local task forces on major crimes and carjacking, support needed for local police and anti-violence programs, and discussion about enforcement, funding and potential legislative solutions in Springfield.

Investigators also recovered from the residence gun parts, including ghost gun parts, a drill press, molds, and other tools used to manufacture firearms.
The centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts continues to be Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime.
