In December of 2021, Deputy Goewey received word that a student had previously made a gun threat in the same classroom as his daughter. He and another parent went to the school to address the issue and requested they remove the student from the class, in accordance with his training and experience as a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) for the Sheriff’s Office specially trained to address these issues.
“The courts must adapt with the times, and this is an important way to address the needs of court users,” Chief Justice Anne M. Burke said. “It is no longer realistic to ask people to leave cell phones and other electronics at home when they visit courthouses.
