Two Subjects Apprehended on Weapons Offenses (Orland Park, IL) — On Tuesday (04/05/22) at approximately 3:30 PM, Orland Park Police officers observed a black vehicle making several traffic violations while traveling east on 151st Street from 94th Ave. Officers stopped the vehicle at the 9100 Block of 151st Street.
As officers approached the vehicle, they observed the front seat passenger, later identified as Jonte L Robinson, make several movements under his seat as if he was attempting to conceal or retrieve something. They met with the driver, Robinson and a back seat passenger, later identified as Damon Collins. Robinson provided officers with a fake name and refused to roll his window down but a few inches. While officers were at the side of the vehicle, they could see that Robinson was sitting on something. Officers requested that each person exit the vehicle beginning with Robinson. As they asked Robinson to exit, he reached over to the gear shifter and attempted to place the vehicle in drive while telling the driver of the vehicle to “go”. Officers observed the attempt to flee and reacted quickly by removing the keys from the ignition, disabling the vehicle.
Robinson, seeing that his attempt to place the vehicle in drive had failed, jumped into the back seat of the vehicle with Collins then they both exited the rear driver’s side door and began to run. When Robinson leaped from the front passenger seat, officers observed a handgun on the seat where he was seated. Officers quickly apprehended Robinson and Collins as they attempted to run from the vehicle. They were taken into custody and the driver removed from the vehicle. Through the Investigation, it was learned Robinson was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections and had an active no bond warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections for Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons.
Collins had a loaded Glock 45, 9 MM handgun on him with an extended magazine. The weapon is equipped with a switch that allows it to be fired fully automatic and the serial numbers were filed off. The weapon recovered from where Robinson was sitting was a fully loaded Stoeger 9mm handgun. Officers located a bag on the floor of the passenger seat where Robinson had been seated. The bag contained a loaded Drako AK47 Rifle. It was discovered that Collins had an active no bond warrant from Chicago Police Department for Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons.
The driver received traffic citations and was released. Orland Fire Protection District responded to the scene. Officers were transported to an area hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries sustained in arresting Robins and Collins.
On 04/05/21, Robinson and Collins were transported to Bridgeview Courthouse where the Honorable Judge Gallagher set the bond at $100,000D (@10% $10,000) for Robinson and $50,000D (@10% $5,000) for Collins.
