Undersheriff Eddie Moore Announces Candidacy for DuPage County Sheriff Following Sheriff Jim Mendrick’s Endorsement (DuPage County, IL) — In a heartfelt message shared today, Undersheriff Eddie Moore, a dedicated law enforcement officer with nearly three decades of service, announced his candidacy for Sheriff of DuPage County. His decision comes after the announcement by his mentor, colleague, and friend, Sheriff Jim Mendrick, who revealed his intention to run for Governor of Illinois, foregoing a third term as the Sheriff of DuPage County.

“I wish Sheriff Jim Mendrick nothing but the best as he embarks on this exciting new journey toward the Governor’s office,” said Undersheriff Moore. “Jim has been a pillar of leadership in DuPage County, and I am deeply honored by his endorsement as the next Sheriff of DuPage County.”

Moore, who has spent the better part of his life in public service, reflected on his personal journey before making the decision to run for Sheriff. “After much thought, reflection, and prayer, I have decided to step forward and carry on the work Sheriff Mendrick began, with a focus on ensuring our community remains safe, resilient, and well-served,” Moore stated.

Moore’s law enforcement career spans over 29 years, beginning in 1995 when he joined the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Deputy. Throughout his career, Moore has risen through the ranks, holding pivotal leadership positions such as Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Chief of the Administrative Bureau, and most recently, Undersheriff. As the Undersheriff, Moore has worked closely with Sheriff Mendrick on numerous community-focused initiatives and strategies aimed at improving public safety.

“My entire career has been dedicated to serving others—first as a member of the U.S. Army, and then as a dedicated law enforcement officer with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office,” Moore said. “I’ve always believed in the power of public service, and I’m committed to continuing to serve the people of DuPage County as their Sheriff.”

If elected, Moore plans to build on the work of his predecessors and utilize the full range of resources available at the Sheriff’s Office to implement positive, lasting change. “I will bring my years of experience, leadership, and commitment to community policing to further strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the citizens we serve,” he said.

As Undersheriff, Moore has seen firsthand the challenges and opportunities facing law enforcement in the region, and he is dedicated to providing innovative solutions that not only protect the public but also build trust and transparency. His vision for DuPage County involves fostering stronger connections with local communities, enhancing training programs for law enforcement officers, and continuing to work on initiatives that keep crime rates low and public safety high.

Undersheriff Moore’s candidacy marks the beginning of a new chapter in DuPage County’s law enforcement leadership. With his experience, passion, and deep roots in the community, he is poised to continue the work of Sheriff Mendrick while bringing fresh, forward-thinking leadership to the Sheriff’s Office.

“DuPage County deserves a Sheriff who will prioritize safety, integrity, and service, and I am ready to step up to lead with these values,” Moore concluded.

The election for DuPage County Sheriff will be held in 2026, and Moore’s campaign is expected to garner strong support from both within the law enforcement community and from DuPage County residents who have long trusted his leadership and dedication.
