The keynote presentation at the summit will offer a debrief of the Platte Canyon High School shooting, where Deputy Chief DeAndrea and John-Michael Keyes will share their experiences. John-Michael Keyes and his wife Ellen founded the I Love U Guys Foundation after the tragic loss of their daughter, Emily, in the shooting. Their personal journey has fueled their commitment to improving school safety and has led to the creation of the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and Standard Reunification Method (SRM), which are now widely adopted for emergency response in schools across the country.
Dr. Caparelli-Ruff emphasized the importance of these protocols, stating, “Their story is the ‘why’ behind the push to make the I Love U Guys’ Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method the accepted framework for all-hazards school responses in Will County.”
The 2025 Will County School Safety Summit will be an invaluable opportunity for professionals to learn, collaborate, and strengthen the response strategies used in schools throughout the region. By working together, attendees will help ensure that students and staff are better protected and prepared for any emergency.
