Your Fast Lane to Holds Pick-up! (Oak Lawn, IL) – The new drive-up service for holds pick-up at Oak Lawn Public Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave., will officially launch Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Patrons will be able to select this convenient new option while placing holds on books and AV materials online.
“Things are coming together!” proclaims Carol L. Williams, Director of the Oak Lawn Public Library. “If you have visited the Library during the past year, you know that we have been making changes in the main floor lobby.” These changes to the lobby included new carpeting and paint done in 2024, in addition to the beginning of a small workroom in its northeast corner. This past January, new shelving for the Library’s AV collection was erected and the Friends Bookstore was relocated.
Throughout this renovation process, preparations have been made for OLPL’s new drive-up service. Patrons looking to pick up holds from the convenience of their vehicles can take advantage of the service, officially launching on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Patrons can place holds on books and AV materials; such as DVDs, CDs and video games; for pick-up with one of two options.
The “Oak Lawn Public Library” option remains unchanged. Items placed on hold through this option will be put on the holds shelf in the lobby when it arrives, for the patron to pick up within seven days.
The “Oak Lawn Public Library Drive-up Window” option will have the hold item placed in the Drive-up workroom upon its arrival. When patrons receive notice that their item is ready to be picked up, they can pull their vehicle up to the new Drive-up Window during its hours of operation and present their library card to staff. The time frame to pick up holds from the Drive-up is the same as standard holds.
“You can check out your hold item without ever having to leave your vehicle!” Director Williams notes of the service’s ease.
The only service performed at the Drive-up Window will be holds pick-up. “Please,” Director Williams requests of patrons, “if you have any other library needs, call or come into the building and speak to staff at the service desks.”
Book and AV material returns can be done at the respective preexisting return slots before the Drive-up Window. Items from OLPL’s Beyond Books collection must still be picked up from the Adult Services Desk on the Library’s second floor.
The Library recommends patrons picking up holds at the Drive-up Window keep some amount of distance between the Drive-up Window and their vehicle, as its drawer opens outwards.
The Drive-up Window will be open for limited hours on days the Library is open. The Drive-up will be closed on Sundays, even those that the Library is open.
Drive-up hours are as follows:
Monday-Thursday: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sunday: CLOSED
