IL Freedom Caucus: Time to protect kids from harmful chemicals and gender surgeries (Springfield, IL) – The Illinois Freedom Caucus is calling for statewide protections for kids being administered hormone treatments and gender surgeries in the state.
According to a newly released database of gender transition procedures on children, there have been no less than 418 kids in Illinois who have been treated for so-called “gender-affirming” care since 2019. Of those, 211 had surgeries while 212 minor patients were given hormones and puberty blockers. Illinois outpaced all surrounding states with the most number of gender-related surgeries for minors.
The Stop The Harm Database from the national group Do No Harm analyzed insurance billing codes and found some shocking information on what is happening not just in Illinois but across the country. According to their analysis, nearly 14,000 minors underwent sex change treatments and about one third had surgeries while more than half took hormones or puberty blockers.
The Illinois Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement on the report.
“Doctors should do no harm. The idea of giving kids life-altering drugs and surgeries that cannot be undone is madness. Illinois is already the California of the Midwest for gender surgeries for minors and what is happening now is only going to get worse. On a recent Zoom call of trans activists for Kamala Harris, a Missouri man stated he was taking his son to Peoria for treatment because Missouri wisely had stood up to protect kids. The word is out that Illinois is the place to get surgeries we all know should never be administered to children. Without legislative action, unscrupulous so-called doctors will continue to perform these barbaric procedures and profit handsomely from them. It is time for our leaders to have the moral courage to stand up for kids and protect them from profiteers masquerading as medical professionals. The point of medicine is to do no harm. But that is exactly what children’s hospitals in our state are doing. We will be introducing legislation soon, and we urge our colleagues to join us in protecting kids by ending these harmful practices and procedures on minors in our state once and for all.”
