By Dart’s estimation, upwards of 200 pre-trial defendants have recently been charged with new crimes that include shootings and other gun offenses. “Few things are more senselessly tragic than the grievous injury of death or a child due to a loaded, unlocked firearm in the home,” Sheriff Dart said. “If you have a firearm, it is your responsibility to ensure that it is locked and kept away from anyone who shouldn’t have access to it, especially children.”

Upon arrival, officers learned that a man approached the 81-year-old victim’s door and told her he was a construction worker. He said he needed to show her something outside and directed her away from the home’s entrance. While the victim was outside, four other offenders entered the residence.

“Make no mistake: this is a violent crime done primarily to obtain an anonymous car to commit more acts of violence, frequently shootings,” Sheriff Dart told the committee.
Magdalena Cuchil-Raymundo, 17, was last seen at her residence in the 10000 Block of Michael Todd Terrace at approximately 7:30 a.m. on February 20.
