ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly provided an update on placement of license plate cameras along nearby interstates to catch criminals involved in shootings. There also was discussion of efforts by local task forces on major crimes and carjacking, support needed for local police and anti-violence programs, and discussion about enforcement, funding and potential legislative solutions in Springfield.

Investigators also recovered from the residence gun parts, including ghost gun parts, a drill press, molds, and other tools used to manufacture firearms.
“Make no mistake: this is a violent crime done primarily to obtain an anonymous car to commit more acts of violence, frequently shootings,” Sheriff Dart told the committee.
How many more people need to suffer from violent acts or lose their life from criminals out on bond from the Cook County judicial system? It is time for them to listen to our local police, leaders, and residents and keep violent criminals off of our streets and out of our communities.

The driver, now identified as Martice Smith, was wearing a Louis Vuitton “satchel bag” underneath his jacket. Inside the satchel was a loaded Springfield .45 caliber handgun.
“Entering prison is always going to be a shock,” said Alan Mills, Executive Director of the Uptown People’s Law Center (UPLC), “but forcing people to endure infestation by vermin, undrinkable water, and extended solitary confinement when they first enter Illinois’ prison system is unacceptable and serves no legitimate purpose.”
