Oak Lawn Library Launches Jazz Music Exhibit (Oak Lawn, IL) — Oak Lawn Public Library was pleased to announce their latest Local History exhibit, “Jazz Music Legends of Oak Lawn.” This exhibit celebrates one of the biggest high school jazz competitions in the country, the Oak Lawn Jazz Festival, which was held from 1960 to 1986 at Oak Lawn Community High School. The festival hosted high school jazz bands from all across Illinois, as well as many highly esteemed, Chicago-native professional jazz performers.

Join the Oak Lawn Public Library for the grand opening on Saturday, April 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Enjoy light refreshments and the musical stylings of Oak Lawn Community High School’s current music students. The exhibit will also pay homage to rock n’ roll music, featuring concert photos by local photographer AJ Roccaforte, who worked with both REO Speedwagon and Styx, bands with deep roots in Oak Lawn. All of this and more can be found during this after-hours event.

If you can’t make opening night, don’t worry, the exhibit will be on display throughout 2024. Come back for more musical performances from a variety of jazz groups that will be hosted there throughout the year, or plan to attend one of this summer’s guided tours of the exhibit. The first tour will be held Wednesday, June 19 from 2 to 3 p.m., no registration required.
