Republican Party Secures Top Ballot Position in Cook County Gubernatorial Election (Cook County, IL) – Republican candidates will appear first on the ballot for the November 3, 2026 gubernatorial election in suburban Cook County following a lottery conducted by the Cook County Clerk’s Office.
Clerk Monica Gordon oversaw the public drawing, which included entries from the Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican parties to determine ballot order for countywide races.
As a result, Republican candidates secured the top position, followed by Democratic candidates in the second spot and Libertarian candidates in the third position for applicable races.
Illinois law requires election officials to conduct a random lottery ahead of elections to ensure a fair and impartial process for determining ballot placement among established political parties.
