DuPage Sheriff Reports Dozens of Traffic Violations During Labor Day Enforcement (Wheaton, IL) – The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office reported dozens of traffic violations and one criminal arrest during a Labor Day weekend enforcement campaign focused on impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and other roadway safety concerns.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies issued six seat belt citations, 10 speeding tickets and 23 citations for distracted driving during the enforcement effort. One person was also arrested for aggravated speeding.
Deputies issued or made an additional 22 citations and arrests for a range of traffic and licensing violations.
Those included five citations for disobeying a stop sign, five for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, two for disregarding a traffic control light, two for driving with expired plates and one each for no valid registration, a driver’s license expired for less than one year, a driver’s license classification violation, failure to use a turn signal, operating a motor vehicle while registration was suspended for non-insurance, improper lane usage, failure to yield and failure to signal.
Sheriff James Mendrick said the campaign was intended not only to enforce traffic laws but also to reinforce the dangers associated with impaired driving.
“Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving – ‘It’s Not a Game,’” Mendrick said.
The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office participated in the statewide Labor Day enforcement campaign alongside other law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners.
The initiative included the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns. The programs are funded through federal highway safety funds administered in Illinois by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The sheriff’s office said the enforcement effort was part of broader efforts to reduce impaired driving and promote safer behavior on Illinois roads.
