CPS Kicks Off Annual Back-to-School Bashes to Celebrate the Upcoming School Year (Chicago, IL) — Chicago Public Schools (CPS) on Friday will kick off its annual Back-to-School Bashes at 10 locations across the city for students and families to connect with their school communities and prepare for the new school year that begins Monday, August 22. These annual events will feature music, food, games, and activities for families.  These celebrations will also provide an opportunity for CPS students and families to meet with their schools, receive school supplies, and take advantage of access to free COVID-19 vaccines and health-related information. CPS staff and volunteers will be available to help answer questions regarding the upcoming school year.

“Back-to-School Bashes provide families the opportunity to re-engage with their school communities and ensure they have the resources necessary for a healthy and successful school year, ” said CPS CEO Pedro Martinez. “We know our families are motivated to start off strong and we look forward to bringing them together to celebrate a new school year.”

CPS will continue to follow the guidance of the CDC, CDPH, and IDPH to keep our students and school staff safe, and the District strongly encourages families to maintain safe and healthy habits during the summer break. The Back-to-School Bashes will provide a convenient opportunity for students of all ages and their families to take advantage of the free and safe COVID-19 vaccinations.

For more information on the events and details on resources to help families prepare for a successful year, families can visit the Back-to-School website at www.cps.edu/b2s. The Back-to-School site includes information on academic programs, community events, frequently-asked-questions, enrollment procedures, medical forms, health requirements and safety protocols for the upcoming school year.

CEO Pedro Martinez and other top District leaders will attend a series of these Back-to-School Bashes to welcome students and parents back to school.
