American Federation of Government Employees Local 704 blasts Trump attack on federal unions (Chicago, IL) – (Friday, March 28, 2025)–Responding to the Trump administration’s attack on federal unions in the form of an executive order issued Thursday night, American Federation of Government Employees Local 704 President Nicole Cantello, who represents 1000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency employees across the Midwest, released the following statement:
“The Trump administration’s unprecedented and outrageous attack on federal unions last night is clearly retaliatory. Since his first day in office, our union has been organizing against Donald Trump’s reckless and harmful agenda–so they’re using the ridiculous pretext of national security to try to shut down our union. The truth is that our union has been serving the hard working staff of the Environmental Protection Agency for decades, while preserving both national security and the health and safety of everyday Americans.
“Our union local represents the people who keep drinking water, air and soil safe from toxic pollutants across the Midwest–including farmers, city dwellers, Tribal lands, and the entire Great Lakes region that provides water for millions of Americans. We make sure those workers are protected, and have safe working conditions themselves. Trump’s attack on our union is an attack on the American heartland itself.
“We’ve always known that Donald Trump and his corrupt billionaire cronies were anti-union and anti-worker. They see unions as nothing more than an obstacle on their relentless quest to enrich themselves. But we have bad news for them–we aren’t going anywhere. We’ll see them in court. And we will win.”
