Community Protest Planned in Belmont Cragin on ICE Enforcement Actions (Chicago, IL) – Community organizers in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood are planning a protest later this month in response to what they describe as continued harassment and arrests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Chicago.

The demonstration, titled “Here to Stay (Aquí Para Quedarse),” is scheduled for November 23 at Riis Park, near the intersection of West Fullerton Avenue and Meade Avenue. The rally is set to begin at noon.

Organizers say the event is meant to show support for immigrant residents who they say have faced intimidation and enforcement actions by ICE. “Our friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors are all here to stay,” organizers said in an announcement promoting the protest. “Our community needs us now more than ever.”

The event is being sponsored by activist Ellison Gaines, the advocacy group 5 Laps for Justice, and community organizer Jenna Lee Dunn. Participants are encouraged to bring signs and join in voicing solidarity with undocumented Chicagoans and mixed-status families in the neighborhood.
