Cook County Board of Review to Host Property Tax Assistance Event as Dozens of Townships Reopen for Appeals (Chicago, IL) – Cook County homeowners will have another opportunity to challenge their property assessments as the Board of Review reopens dozens of townships for the 2025 appeals session. To help residents navigate the process, Board of Review District 2 Commissioner Samantha Steele is hosting a free, in-person property tax assistance event on Tuesday, December 9.

The session will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at Broadway Armory Park, 5917 N. Broadway Ave., in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood.

The Board of Review recently reopened appeals for 24 townships, including Berwyn, Palos, Stickney, Evanston, Elk Grove, West Chicago, Norwood Park, Lakeview, Bremen, River Forest, Lyons, Calumet, Riverside, New Trier, Hyde Park, Rogers Park, Barrington, Lemont, Cicero, Maine, Leyden, Oak Park, Northfield and Worth. Homeowners in those areas have until December 12 at 11:59 p.m. to file appeals.

Appeals remain open through December 19 for Jefferson, Proviso and Wheeling townships. Several others — including Bloom, Hanover, Lake, Niles, North, Orland, Palatine, Rich, Schaumburg, South and Thornton — are currently in the pre-file period.

Commissioner Steele encouraged residents to take advantage of the additional time and in-person support.

“Our office remains focused on giving people the tools and guidance they need to navigate the property tax system confidently,” she said. “With the township re-openings underway, we want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to be heard.”

Homeowners attending the event should bring their Property Index Number (PIN), which can be found on their tax bill or through the county’s online search tools.
