Clerk Gordon Urges Bears to Consider Country Club Hills for Future Stadium (Chicago, IL) – As the Chicago Bears continue to evaluate potential sites for a future stadium, Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon is urging the franchise to consider Country Club Hills as a development option that would keep the team in Illinois while generating economic growth in the south suburbs.
Gordon, a lifelong Bears fan, said she is concerned by reports that the team may explore relocation options outside of Illinois, including Northwest Indiana. She argued that Country Club Hills offers a viable alternative within Cook County, combining available land, strong transportation access and the potential for significant regional investment.
Before her election as county clerk, Gordon served as Cook County commissioner for the 5th District, which includes Country Club Hills. She said she first shared the proposal with the Bears organization in 2023 and believes the current discussions about the team’s future present an opportunity to revisit the idea.
Located within 30 miles of downtown Chicago, Joliet, the Illinois-Indiana border and Midway International Airport, Country Club Hills sits near major transportation corridors and established infrastructure. The area is adjacent to the Calumet Region, which includes parts of Chicago’s Southeast Side and Northwest Indiana and is home to industrial and manufacturing operations, multiple highways, expanding Metra Electric service and key freight and transit networks.
Gordon also emphasized the opportunity to pursue a stadium development model centered on inclusive and equitable partnerships. She pointed to her past work with Black-owned and minority-led firms, including East Lake Management, Infrastructure Engineering, CKL Engineers and IDG+ Architects, which have developed a concept for a south suburban entertainment district anchored by a Chicago Bears Museum and Hall of Fame.
The proposal envisions a mixed-use destination featuring restaurants, hotels and nightlife, designed to generate year-round economic activity while celebrating the franchise’s history.
“The Chicago Bears are an organization defined by tradition, leadership and community,” Gordon said. “We have the land, the expertise and the determination. What we are seeking is the opportunity to share a vision that builds bridges, reshapes narratives and creates lasting value.”
Gordon said she is calling on the Bears to include Country Club Hills among the locations under consideration and expressed interest in meeting with team leadership to discuss the proposal in more detail.
“As decisions are weighed about the future of this iconic franchise, it is important to remember that the passion of Chicago Bears fans is unmatched,” Gordon said. “Fans like me stand behind the organization and support its efforts to secure a strong and successful future.”
