Walter Adamczyk Launches Bid for Illinois Secretary of State (Chicago, IL) – Republican Walter Adamczyk, a longtime community advocate and former ward committeeman, is running for Illinois Secretary of State, citing decades of party involvement and neighborhood-level public service as the foundation of his campaign.
Adamczyk, 48, previously served two consecutive terms as the elected Republican Committeeman for Chicago’s 29th Ward, representing the Galewood and Montclare neighborhoods on the city’s Northwest Side. He currently serves as a vice president of the West Side GOP, a role he has held since 2025, and has been a board member of the Galewood–Montclare Community Organization since 2024.
In announcing his candidacy, Adamczyk emphasized what he described as a service-oriented approach to politics, saying his involvement has been driven by consistency and community needs rather than personal political ambition.
His supporters point to his actions during the COVID-19 pandemic as an example. In 2020, Adamczyk personally distributed free face masks to neighborhood residents when supplies were scarce, with a focus on protecting seniors and families. He has also participated in charitable efforts, including donating toys to Toys for Tots across the 29th Ward during the holiday season.
A lifelong Republican, Adamczyk said he has voted with the party since turning 18, marking roughly 30 years of continuous civic engagement. He identifies as pro-life, supports the Second Amendment, and is a licensed concealed-carry holder with a valid FOID card. He is also publicly supportive of law enforcement and favors the death penalty for convicted murderers, particularly in cases involving the killing of police officers or children.
As a candidate for Secretary of State, Adamczyk is campaigning on what he describes as “citizen-first” reforms to the state’s driver services and election systems. His proposals include express service lanes at driver services facilities for veterans and senior citizens, free driver’s licenses and state IDs for U.S. military veterans, and the elimination of appointment-only systems in favor of walk-in service.
He has also called for tighter maintenance of Illinois voter rolls, advocating for the removal of ineligible registrations and prosecution of illegal voting when proven under the law. Adamczyk has drawn a sharp distinction between benefits for veterans and policies he opposes, stating he does not support providing free licenses to undocumented immigrants.
Adamczyk said his campaign centers on secure elections, efficient government services, and respect for the rule of law. He argues that the Secretary of State’s office should prioritize accessibility, accountability, and public safety while improving day-to-day interactions between residents and state government.
The race for Illinois Secretary of State is expected to draw increased attention as candidates outline competing visions for managing one of the state’s most visible and service-heavy offices.
