Friends of the Forest Preserves to Host Summer Solstice Celebration at Beaubien Woods (Chicago, IL) – Friends of the Forest Preserves and Light of Loving Kindness will host a free Summer Solstice celebration at Beaubien Woods on Chicago’s South Side, inviting families and community members to connect with nature, wellness and environmental stewardship on the longest day of the year.

The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, at the Beaubien Woods Forest Preserve Pavilion near East 132nd Street and South Greenwood Avenue.

Organizers say the gathering will provide an opportunity for residents to celebrate both the Summer Solstice and Father’s Day through outdoor activities focused on reflection, restoration and community engagement.

The free public event is part of an ongoing partnership between Friends of the Forest Preserves and Light of Loving Kindness that emphasizes the restoration of self, community and the natural environment.

Participants will be able to take part in a guided nature walk through the preserve, designed to encourage reflection and a deeper connection to the surrounding landscape. Attendees can also participate in light restoration projects and hands-on planter activities intended to promote environmental stewardship.

The event will also feature shared food, community conversations and wellness-focused discussions exploring the relationship between nutrition, mental health and overall well-being.

Organizers hope the gathering will encourage residents to spend time outdoors while learning more about the importance of preserving and caring for natural spaces throughout the Calumet region.

Friends of the Forest Preserves, a nonprofit organization with more than 2,500 members, works to protect, promote and care for the Cook County Forest Preserves through advocacy, education and volunteer engagement.

The Summer Solstice celebration is free and open to the public. Organizers encourage participants to reserve a spot through Eventbrite.

For additional information, attendees can contact Friends of the Forest Preserves Youth & Engagement Corps Manager Joy Bailey or Light of Loving Kindness Program and Events Engagement Coordinator Sable Woods.
