Democratic Party of Illinois Highlights First-Ever Youth Weekend of Action (Springfield, IL) – The Democratic Party of Illinois is highlighting the success of its first-ever Youth Weekend of Action, a statewide organizing effort that mobilized young volunteers as part of the party’s broader Organize Illinois 2026 campaign.

The initiative, held over the weekend, was organized in partnership with the Young Democrats of Illinois, College Democrats of Illinois and Illinois High School Democrats.

According to the Democratic Party of Illinois, youth volunteers, interns and fellows participated in voter outreach efforts across the state, knocking on more than 6,000 doors and engaging voters ahead of the November election.

“This past weekend, we pulled in Organize Illinois Youth Fellows, interns, students and young volunteers to talk to voters about the importance of electing Democrats up and down the ballot in November,” said Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez. “Across Illinois, volunteers knocked on thousands of doors, including in competitive districts, showing Illinoisans that Democrats of all ages are fighting for a better, more affordable future.”

Party officials said the effort was designed to increase youth engagement in the political process while building grassroots support for Democratic candidates throughout Illinois.

Emma Murphy, the Democratic Party of Illinois’ youth organizing director, said the weekend demonstrated the impact young voters and volunteers can have on campaign operations.

“This weekend proved that involving young people is how we build a strong Democratic coalition that is truly engaged within their community,” Murphy said. “The Democratic Party of Illinois has proven that upcoming generations are a force—our energy this weekend to fight for every seat on the ticket will keep the Party energized from now through November.”

The Youth Weekend of Action included several regional events and canvassing launches.

On Saturday, volunteers gathered in Danville alongside Mary Catherine Roberson, a Democratic candidate for Illinois House District 104. Another event was held in Carol Stream featuring State Sen. Laura Ellman, DuPage County Board candidate Christopher Espinoza and Young Democrats of Illinois President Dominik Bronakowski.

The weekend concluded Sunday in Chicago, where volunteers joined Hernandez and community organization Safer Tomorrow for additional voter outreach efforts.

The Democratic Party of Illinois said the initiative is part of its ongoing effort to engage younger voters and volunteers ahead of the 2026 election cycle and strengthen grassroots organizing efforts throughout the state.
