DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Launches Fourth of July Traffic Safety Campaign (Wheaton, IL) – The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up traffic enforcement efforts ahead of the Independence Day holiday, targeting impaired drivers and seat belt violations as part of a statewide safety campaign.

The enforcement initiative will run from June 19 through July 6, covering three summer weekends before and after the Fourth of July holiday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies will focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road while also enforcing Illinois seat belt laws.

“We’re asking all of our residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day safely,” said DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick. “It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink or use drugs. Our officers will be out in full force to keep impaired drivers off the road.”

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is joining the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the annual holiday enforcement campaign.

Officials are encouraging motorists to plan ahead if they intend to consume alcohol or other impairing substances. Recommended safety measures include designating a sober driver, using ride-share services, calling a taxi or utilizing public transportation.

Law enforcement agencies also remind passengers to wear seat belts at all times, noting that seat belt use remains one of the most effective ways to reduce serious injuries and fatalities in traffic crashes.

The increased enforcement effort is part of a broader statewide initiative aimed at reducing impaired driving incidents and improving roadway safety during one of the busiest travel periods of the summer.

Authorities urge anyone who observes a suspected impaired driver to contact local law enforcement when it is safe to do so.
