DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Joins Statewide Speed Enforcement Campaign Through August 1 (DuPage County, IL) – Drivers in DuPage County can expect increased traffic enforcement throughout July as the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office joins a statewide campaign aimed at reducing speeding and improving roadway safety.

The sheriff’s office announced it is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police, and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies as part of the “Speeding Catches Up With You” enforcement campaign. The initiative runs from July 7 through Aug. 1 and will focus on identifying and ticketing motorists who exceed posted speed limits and commit other traffic violations.

Sheriff James Mendrick said the campaign comes as law enforcement continues to see an increase in dangerous driving behaviors.

“Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous,” Mendrick said. “Speed limits aren’t a suggestion—they are the law.”

According to the sheriff’s office, speeding reduces a driver’s ability to safely react to changing road conditions, avoid other vehicles, navigate curves, and respond to unexpected hazards. Officials say those factors contribute to preventable crashes and put everyone on the road at greater risk.

During the enforcement period, deputies will increase patrols across DuPage County, with a particular focus on neighborhoods and roadways where speed-related crashes are more common. Motorists caught violating speed limits should expect to receive citations.

The campaign is funded through federal highway safety grants administered by IDOT and supports the department’s broader “It’s Not a Game” traffic safety awareness campaign, which encourages drivers to make safer choices behind the wheel.

Law enforcement officials remind motorists that obeying posted speed limits, eliminating distractions, and driving responsibly can help reduce crashes and save lives.
