DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Releases Fourth of July Traffic Enforcement Results (DuPage County, IL) – The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office has released the results of its Fourth of July traffic safety campaign, reporting dozens of citations and several arrests as part of statewide efforts to reduce impaired driving and improve roadway safety during the holiday weekend.
The enforcement campaign combined the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives, with deputies conducting high-visibility patrols throughout the Fourth of July holiday period.
According to Sheriff James Mendrick, deputies made one impaired driving arrest and issued five seat belt citations during the campaign.
In addition, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office reported:
- 27 speeding citations
- 18 distracted driving citations
- Three criminal arrests for aggravated speeding
- Three traffic arrests for driving while license suspended
- One DUI alcohol arrest
- 31 miscellaneous traffic citations
The sheriff’s office joined more than 200 state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the Independence Day enforcement effort. The campaign focused on removing impaired drivers from the road, increasing seat belt use, and enforcing other traffic safety laws through increased patrols and public outreach.
Officials said the enforcement initiative was paired with a statewide media campaign designed to remind motorists about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.
The Fourth of July enforcement campaign was funded through federal highway safety grants administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), with support from the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies. It also complements IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” traffic safety campaign, which highlights the real-life impact of fatal crashes on Illinois families.
Law enforcement officials continue to encourage motorists to wear seat belts, avoid distractions behind the wheel, obey speed limits, and never drive while impaired.
