Will County Clerk Receives More Than $107,000 in State Grants to Improve Election Access and Security (Will County, IL) – The Will County Clerk’s Office has been awarded more than $107,000 in grants from the Illinois State Board of Elections to improve election accessibility, strengthen ballot security, and expand voter services across the county.
Will County Clerk Annette Parker announced that her office received two grants totaling $107,620.65 through state programs designed to support local election administration.
The first grant, $28,980.65, was awarded through the Polling Place Accessibility Grant Program. The funding will be used to provide accessible voting equipment for voters who are blind, visually impaired, or have mobility limitations, helping ensure eligible residents can cast ballots independently.
The Clerk’s Office also received $78,640 through the Illinois Voter Registration Grant Program to purchase five secure smart ballot drop boxes. According to the office, the new drop boxes are equipped with enhanced security features, including front-facing cameras that capture an image when a ballot envelope is deposited, barcode scanners that track ballot envelopes, image-capture technology for envelope signatures, and built-in fire suppression systems to protect election materials.
Parker said the funding will help continue efforts to improve both the accessibility and integrity of elections in Will County.
“I am pleased that our office has been awarded these grant funds to continue strengthening elections in Will County,” Parker said. “These investments will help us make elections more accessible, secure, transparent, and efficient while ensuring every voter has confidence in the electoral process.”
The Illinois State Board of Elections provides grant funding to local election authorities to support improvements in election administration, expand voter access, and enhance the security of election infrastructure throughout the state.
The grants will allow Will County election officials to implement new technology and equipment ahead of future elections while continuing efforts to make voting more accessible for all eligible residents.
