NBA Legend Terry Cummings Gives Away $10,000 in Free Gas to Blue Island Residents (Blue Island, IL) – NBA legend Terry Cummings and The Terry Cummings Foundation provided $10,000 in free gasoline to hundreds of motorists Tuesday afternoon in Blue Island as part of the foundation’s ongoing community outreach initiative, Operation Legacy: Give Back.
The giveaway took place at the new 76 Gas Station, 12300 S. Western Ave., where up to 400 vehicles were expected to receive complimentary gasoline during the three-hour event.
Cummings partnered with Black Men United and Bishop John Harrell for the giveaway, which marked the final installment of a week of community-focused activities organized through Operation Legacy: Give Back.
The event was designed to provide immediate financial assistance to local families and residents facing rising household and transportation costs. For many households, transportation remains a significant part of monthly expenses, and organizers said the giveaway was intended to help families stretch their budgets further for necessities such as groceries, utilities and school-related expenses.
Cummings was expected to personally welcome residents and pump gas alongside volunteers assisting motorists as vehicles moved through the station.
The Terry Cummings Foundation said the initiative reflects Cummings’ continued commitment to returning to his home community, investing in neighborhoods that helped shape him and providing direct support to residents.
The event drew motorists seeking relief at the pump, with organizers anticipating strong turnout and lines of vehicles throughout the afternoon.
Cummings, a former NBA star and Chicago native, has expanded his community involvement through the foundation and its Operation Legacy: Give Back initiative, which focuses on bringing resources, support and direct assistance to local communities.
Tuesday’s $10,000 giveaway brought the initiative’s latest round of events to a close, with hundreds of area motorists receiving assistance during an afternoon focused on providing immediate relief to working families.
