Independent Campaign Highlights Carolyn Schofield on Women’s Equality Day (Palatine, IL) – Independent gubernatorial candidate Collin Corbett’s campaign is marking Women’s Equality Day by highlighting his running mate, Carolyn Schofield, who the campaign says is the only female candidate on an Illinois gubernatorial ticket.
The campaign announced Wednesday that Schofield, an independent candidate for lieutenant governor, is the only woman appearing in the gubernatorial contest as candidates commemorate Women’s Equality Day, which recognizes the ratification of the 19th Amendment and women’s constitutional right to vote.
“As a wife and mother of three children, I am proud to stand with Collin as voices for everyday Illinoisans in a race where the major-party candidates are out-of-touch billionaires and millionaires,” Schofield said. “We know the struggles of working families in Illinois because we live them every day. We know the price of groceries and the weight of a mortgage.”
Schofield brings more than 20 years of experience in state and local government, according to the campaign. She currently serves as president of the McHenry County Mental Health Board and as a vice chair of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.
Her previous public service roles include serving as a McHenry County Board member, Crystal Lake council member and legislative director in Springfield.
The campaign said Schofield’s work on the McHenry County Mental Health Board has focused on expanding access to mental health services, substance use prevention, training and community resources. Through her role with CMAP, she also helps guide regional planning efforts across the Chicago metropolitan area.
“Carolyn is the exact type of person Illinoisans deserve for Lt. Governor,” Corbett said. “One of the things I admire most about Carolyn is that she isn’t interested in partisan politics or political games. All she cares about is delivering solutions that make people’s lives better.”
The Corbett-Schofield campaign said the Democratic and Republican gubernatorial tickets are exclusively male and argued that its independent ticket offers female voters representation in the statewide race.
“As we celebrate Women’s Equality Day, I’m glad our ticket provides the millions of female voters in Illinois a candidate who understands their needs,” Corbett said. “We need more women in our government at every level, and Carolyn has had the courage throughout her career to step up and be a mainstream, common sense voice for working families.”
Corbett, a political strategist and small business owner, is running as an independent for governor. According to his campaign, he has spent more than two decades recruiting and training people to participate in community organizations and political campaigns.
The independent campaign said Schofield is available for interviews and has discussed affordability, family and community issues throughout the campaign.
