Car Crashes Into Campaign Office of Dolton Trustee, Candidate for Cook County Board (Dolton, IL) – A speeding SUV crashed into the campaign office of Dolton Trustee Kiana Belcher, a candidate for 5th District Cook County Commissioner, on Friday, leaving the driver injured but sparing campaign staff and volunteers.
Authorities said the SUV struck a light pole on 142nd Street before colliding with the building at 14200 Martin Luther King Drive, where Belcher’s campaign is headquartered. The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No campaign workers, volunteers, or pedestrians were hurt.
“By the grace of God, everyone is safe,” Belcher said in a statement. “Today could have ended differently, and we don’t take that for granted. This incident only reminds me why I’m running — because our communities deserve leaders who show up in moments of crisis, not just when the cameras are rolling.”
Belcher also praised first responders for their swift action, crediting Dolton police, firefighters, and emergency personnel with preventing a larger tragedy.
Despite the damage, Belcher vowed her campaign will continue uninterrupted. She announced plans to move outreach efforts into the community through a mobile “tent campaign headquarters,” which she said symbolizes resilience and accessibility.
“A car can hit a building, but it can’t stop a movement,” Belcher said. “If anything, this moment strengthens our commitment to meet people right where they are — in the streets, in the parking lots, and in every corner of the 5th District.”
Belcher, a lifelong Southland resident, educator, and advocate, has served as a Village of Dolton trustee and is campaigning on a platform of transparency, economic fairness, infrastructure improvements, and equitable healthcare access.
