Chuy García, Latino Leaders Endorse Stratton in U.S. Senate Primary (Chicago, IL) – Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García and a broad coalition of Latino elected officials and community leaders announced their endorsement of Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton in the Illinois Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, giving Stratton a major boost of support in the growing statewide race.

García (D-IL-04) is the second Democratic member of Illinois’ congressional delegation to back Stratton’s campaign, joining Rep. Danny Davis. The endorsement was also joined by several political organizations and ward groups, including the Democratic Party of IL-04, the 22nd Ward Independent Political Organization and the 14th Ward Democratic Party.

A long list of Latino leaders from across the Chicago area also endorsed Stratton, including State Sens. Javier Cervantes and Celina Villanueva; State Reps. Edgar Gonzalez Jr., Norma Hernandez and Aaron Ortiz; Cook County Commissioner Alma Anaya; 22nd Ward Alderman Mike Rodriguez; 14th Ward Alderwoman Jeylú Gutiérrez; 40th Ward Alderman Andre Vasquez; Chicago Board of Education member Yesenia Lopez; 10th Police District Councilor Elianne Bahena; and congressional candidate Patty Garcia, among others.

García praised Stratton’s record as lieutenant governor and said she would be a strong advocate for Illinois in Washington.

“I’m proud to endorse Juliana Stratton for U.S. Senate,” García said in a statement. “We need a senator who has the courage to stand up to ICE and defend the interests of all Illinoisans. Juliana has been a true champion for working families as lieutenant governor, and I know that she will make us proud in the United States Senate.”

State Sen. Celina Villanueva also cited Stratton’s work in Springfield and her focus on working families.

“I know how important it is to have leaders who understand the struggles working families face and who fight every day for opportunity, dignity, and justice,” Villanueva said. “I’ve worked side by side with Juliana in Springfield, and I look forward to seeing her continue that work in Washington.”

Alderman Mike Rodriguez described the Senate race as a pivotal moment for the state, calling for bold leadership at the federal level.

“This election is a critical opportunity to send a bold leader to the Senate,” Rodriguez said. “Illinois deserves a senator who will meet this moment, and Juliana is that leader.”

Stratton said she was honored by García’s endorsement and the support of community and political leaders across the region.

“Congressman Chuy García is a true public servant who has fought to advance a bold, progressive agenda, even when it was not the easy thing to do,” Stratton said. “I’m deeply grateful to each of these trusted leaders for their support, and I’m confident these grassroots partners will help propel us to victory in March.”

The endorsements position Stratton as a leading progressive contender in the Democratic primary as the race for Illinois’ U.S. Senate seat continues to take shape.
