Cook County Board of Review Opens Property Tax Appeals for Six More Townships (Cook County, IL) – The Cook County Board of Review will open its second group of townships for 2026 property tax assessment appeals on Monday, Aug. 31, giving property owners in six townships an opportunity to challenge assessments they believe are inaccurate.

Property owners in Berwyn, Cicero, Elk Grove, Lakeview, Maine and Palos townships will be able to file appeals through Sept. 29.

The Cook County Board of Review provides an independent review of property assessments and serves as the second level of appeal in the county’s property tax assessment process. The appeal process is free, and property owners in all 38 Cook County townships will have an opportunity to file during the 2026 appeal season.

Appeals may be submitted online at www.cookcountyboardofreview.com, through attorneys or authorized tax representatives, or in person at the Board of Review office at 118 N. Clark St. in Chicago. The office accepts in-person filings Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A pre-file period for non-attorney filers is also currently available, allowing taxpayers to submit appeals before their township’s official filing period begins. The pre-file option closes once the applicable township officially opens.

The Board of Review is encouraging property owners to examine their assessments and consider filing an appeal if they believe their property’s assessed value does not accurately reflect its value.

The opening of the second group follows another year of heavy demand for property tax appeals. During the 2025 tax year, the Board processed a record 290,533 appeals, according to the agency.

The Board of Review said the volume of appeals underscores the importance of providing Cook County taxpayers with access to an independent review of property assessments.

Additional information about filing deadlines, the appeals process and educational resources is available through the Cook County Board of Review website or by calling 312-603-5542.
