Cook County Clerk Gordon Welcomes Supreme Court Mail Ballot Ruling (Chicago, IL) – Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon welcomed a U.S. Supreme Court decision blocking new federal requirements for mail ballots from taking effect ahead of the Nov. 3, 2026 General Election.
Gordon said the ruling provides election officials and voters with greater certainty as preparations continue for the November election. Her office will continue following its established procedures for administering the election and providing voters with multiple ways to cast their ballots.
“The Cook County Clerk’s Office will continue our preparations for a free, fair and accessible election,” Gordon said. “Voting by mail remains a safe, secure and available option for Cook County voters.”
Gordon said the decision gives local election officials additional clarity as they finalize preparations for Election Day. She also emphasized that voters will continue to have the option of choosing the voting method that works best for them.
The Cook County Clerk’s Office is continuing its work to ensure election operations are conducted securely and that voters have access to accurate information about the November election.
The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, with Cook County officials preparing for what will be a major election across the county.
