Cook County Clerk Urges Residents to Register Ahead of Sunday’s Online Deadline (Cook County, IL) — With the November 3 Gubernatorial General Election fast approaching, Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon is issuing a final reminder to suburban residents: the deadline to register to vote online closes this Sunday, October 18, at 11:59 p.m.
Eligible voters looking to use the digital portal can complete their registration at cookcountyclerk.com/RTV. However, for those who miss the weekend cutoff, Gordon emphasizes that they will not be locked out of the democratic process.
“While the online registration deadline is approaching, I want voters to know that it’s not their last opportunity to register and make their voices heard,” Clerk Gordon stated. “There are still plenty of opportunities to register, cast your ballot and participate in this important election.”
Starting Monday, October 19, suburban Cook County will transition into in-person grace-period registration and early voting. Residents can register and cast their ballots simultaneously at any of the 56 designated Early Voting locations scattered throughout the suburbs. This early voting period runs through Monday, November 2.
Even on Election Day itself, Tuesday, November 3, unregistered eligible residents can still sign up. Voters can register and vote on the spot at their assigned home precinct or at any of the Clerk’s specialized Election Day Vote Centers.
Election officials stress that anyone opting to register in person—whether during the Early Voting period or on Election Day—must come prepared. The process requires two acceptable forms of identification, with at least one displaying the voter’s current address. Additionally, individuals registering through this method are required to cast their ballot immediately upon registering. A full list of acceptable IDs can be found at cookcountyclerk.com/AcceptableID.
Beyond registration, Gordon is urging all residents to establish a concrete voting plan before heading to the polls. Through the “Your Voter Information” tool on the Clerk’s website (cookcountyclerk.com/VoterInfo), residents can easily verify their current registration status, view and print personalized sample ballots, locate their specific polling places, and track the status of mail-in ballots.
A comprehensive list of Early Voting sites and their operating hours can also be accessed at cookcountyclerk.com/EVLocations.
“Whether you choose to vote early or on Election Day, the most important thing is to have a plan,” Gordon noted. “Take a few minutes to check your registration, review your ballot and make sure you’re ready to vote.”
