Corbett Criticizes IDFPR Over Missed Online Licensing Deadline (Palatine, IL) – Independent candidate for Illinois governor Collin Corbett is criticizing the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation after the agency missed its August 2026 target for fully implementing an online occupational licensing system.
The licensing modernization effort stems from legislation approved by the Illinois General Assembly in late 2023. According to Corbett, IDFPR had repeatedly indicated that the transition would be fully completed by August 2026, but the agency has not reached that goal.
“IDFPR’s self-imposed deadline came and went, and Pritzker is hoping nobody notices they’re not even done with Phase 3 out of 6,” Corbett said.
Corbett also pointed to longstanding complaints about delays in professional licensing, saying the problems have affected workers in fields including medicine, nursing, veterinary services, engineering, funeral services and real estate.
“This department has been a mess since 2019,” Corbett said. “Professionals like doctors, nurses, vets, engineers, funeral directors, and realtors have faced wait times up to 18 months, causing many to give up and go to other states because Illinois can’t even figure out how to issue them a PDF.”
Corbett argued that licensing delays have consequences beyond the professionals waiting for approval. He said workers can lose wages while waiting, businesses can struggle to find qualified employees and the state can lose potential tax revenue.
The gubernatorial candidate said the continued pace of the modernization project demonstrates a need for broader changes to state government operations.
“As Governor, I will complete this transition as part of a full modernization of state government,” Corbett said. “We need to support our workers and get our economy growing again.”
Corbett is an independent political strategist and small business owner. His campaign says he has spent more than two decades working to increase civic participation and has recruited and trained more than 3,500 people while working with nearly 1,200 organizations and campaigns nationwide.
