DuPage Sheriff’s Office Reports Citations, Arrest in Labor Day Safety Campaign (Wheaton, IL) – The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office issued more than 60 citations and made one arrest during a Labor Day weekend enforcement campaign aimed at reducing impaired and unsafe driving.

Deputies reported issuing 16 seat belt citations — all during daytime hours — along with 48 additional citations for other violations. One driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

“Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving — ‘It’s Not a Game,’” Sheriff James Mendrick said in a statement.

The campaign was part of a statewide effort known as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High Get a DUI,” which combined with the “Click It or Ticket” initiative to target impaired and unbelted drivers.

The Illinois Department of Transportation funded the enforcement through federal highway safety grants. Law enforcement agencies across the state partnered in the campaign.
