Flags Ordered to Half-Staff in Illinois to Honor Former Vice President Cheney (Springfield, IL) – Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has ordered all state and U.S. flags at government buildings to be flown at half-staff following the passing of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

The directive, issued through the Illinois Department of Central Management Services, applies to all state agencies and other entities covered under the Illinois Flag Display Act. Flags are to remain lowered from now through sunset on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025.

Cheney, who served as vice president under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009, was a prominent figure in national security and defense policy during his time in office. The governor’s order is meant to honor his years of public service.
