Illinois Democrats Criticize ILGOP Chair Over Support for Trump Amid Inflation Debate (Springfield, IL) – The Democratic Party of Illinois is criticizing Illinois Republican Party Chairman Bob Grogan after comments expressing support for President Donald Trump, arguing that Illinois families continue to face higher costs amid ongoing inflation concerns.
In a statement released this week, Democrats pointed to remarks by Grogan in which he said he has “no problem supporting the President” and that he “definitely share[s] a lot of the same convictions” as Trump.
The criticism comes after Trump reportedly stated, “I love the inflation,” during remarks from the Oval Office, a comment Democrats have seized on as they continue to attack the administration’s economic policies.
According to the Democratic Party of Illinois, recent economic data shows Illinois households are paying significantly more for everyday expenses than in previous years. The party cited figures claiming the average Illinois household has spent more than $3,400 additional dollars on goods and services, including higher costs for groceries, gasoline, electricity and housing.
Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez said Republican leaders are failing to address the financial challenges facing working families.
“Illinois Republicans want voters to believe that they’re on the side of working families, but their actions tell the opposite story,” Hernandez said in a statement. “As families across Illinois pay the price for Donald Trump’s reckless tariffs, war of choice, and cuts to health care, Bob Grogan made clear he supports the ‘I love the inflation’ President.”
Hernandez further argued that Grogan’s support for Trump demonstrates continued alignment between the Illinois Republican Party and the national MAGA movement.
“His refusal to hold Trump accountable in the slightest is further proof that the Illinois Republican Party has fully descended into MAGA delusion,” Hernandez said. “Make no mistake: Illinois Democrats running in races up and down the ballot are fighting to lower costs and make life more affordable in Trump’s economy.”
The Democratic Party’s statement also linked rising inflation to the administration’s foreign policy decisions and cited recent economic reports showing increases in producer prices and inflationary pressures.
Republicans have generally defended the administration’s economic agenda, arguing that broader economic conditions, energy policy and global events have contributed to rising costs.
The exchange highlights the ongoing political battle over inflation, consumer prices and economic performance as Illinois Democrats and Republicans continue to shape their messages ahead of upcoming elections.
